Is Your Window Tint Past Its Prime?
Good tint lasts for years, but it doesn't last forever. Colorado's strong, high-altitude sun is hard on window film, and age and heat wear it down over time. Bad tint doesn't just look rough. It can hurt your visibility and stop protecting your car. Here are five clear signs it's time for new film.
1. Bubbles or Blisters
Bubbles form when the adhesive fails and the film separates from the glass. A few tiny bubbles right after install can be normal while the film cures. Bubbles that show up months or years later mean the adhesive has broken down, and they only spread.
2. Purple or Faded Color
If your tint has turned purple, brown, or patchy, the dyes in the film are breaking down from UV exposure. This is common with older, lower-grade dyed film, and Colorado sun speeds it up. Faded tint also blocks far less heat and UV than it did when new.
3. Peeling or Lifting Edges
Edges that curl or peel away from the glass let in dust and moisture, which speeds up the damage. Peeling near window seals or defroster lines is an early warning that the whole piece is on its way out.
4. Haze, Streaks, or Distorted Visibility
Tint should be clear and even. If you notice a cloudy haze, streaky patches, or a warped look, especially at night, that's a safety problem. Poor visibility makes driving harder, and it's one more reason to replace the film.
5. Your Car Feels Hotter Than It Used To
If your cabin heats up faster than it once did, your film may have lost its heat rejection. Tint wears out gradually, so you might not notice until you compare it to a fresh install.
What to Do Next
Old tint should be professionally removed before new film goes on. Scraping it yourself can damage defroster lines and leave behind sticky adhesive. At Profile Auto Solutions, we remove old film cleanly, prep the glass, and install new film with a warranty. We also offer ceramic tint options for stronger heat and UV rejection than older dyed film.
Can You Just Tint Over Old Tint?
No. New film won't bond properly over old film, and the result looks poor and fails early. Removal is always the right first step.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long should window tint last?
Quality film often lasts 10 years or more. Cheaper dyed film may start to fail much sooner, especially in strong sun.
Can bubbles be fixed without replacing the tint?
Usually not. Once adhesive fails, the film needs to be replaced.
Is it expensive to replace old tint?
It costs a bit more than a first-time install because of removal, but it's far cheaper than living with failing film.
Does a warranty cover bubbling or fading?
Many quality films do. Ask your installer what's covered, and keep your paperwork.
Can you replace my windshield and redo my tint in one visit?
In many cases, yes. Call us and we'll tell you what's possible for your vehicle.
